Rain splattered against the windshield of the black car as it slowly made its way through the five o' clock traffic. The boy inside, new to this country, wasn't too bothered by the blockage and slow pace he made, as he was used to it from his home country. Though if the traffic was worse there or not, he couldn't tell, not that he cared. No, he was quite content with the music blasting in the car, lulling him away from his troubles at the moment, and into a sweet, serene music high.
But reality would return to him soon enough - he needed a place to stay, a place to live. It would be hard for someone like him, a foreigner, to find what he was looking for in a place like this. But he had to try. Not only for him, but for the two canines who laid together in the back seat. Hayate - who's pelt was a beautiful contrast of black and white, and Yuki - brown and white fur making a luscious, creamy blend with that of her mate. The two Malamutes had been his only friends for as long as he could remember, and they needed a place as well, a good place where Aki could have a possible roommate that would care about them as much as he.
With a sigh, Akira shifted his gaze upward as the car came to a stop, his eyes landing on the sign to a rather welcomed sight to his tired being. A coffee shop. Caffeine would keep him running until he found a place to stay, as even if he were to rest, it wouldn't be efficient enough for him. Working the car into a small parking space not too far from the building, he turned the key and slid it into the pocket of his hoodie before pulling the hood over his head. Turning to face the two canines in the back, Aki gave them a wry smile before quickly muttering, "You two behave, I'll try not to be long." With that, he rushed out in the rain toward the shop.
Huffing as he came in through the door, Akira reached up and flicked the hood off of his head before running his hand through his hair, messing it as he took a look around. It was a cozy little place, more secluded than the ones back in Shibuya - he liked it. Steeling himself a little, he walked up to the front counter, glancing over the menu. Hm... Quickly deciding on what he wanted, he paid for the drink and moved away from the counter for the next person to step up. His hand never left the counter, sliding upon the smooth surface to land on a stack of newspapers not too far away from the register. Looking down a them, an idea suddenly clicked in his head. He had heard that people advertise in these things, maybe he could find something in here that could aid his troubles.
Picking one up, Akira moved to one of the many tables laying the paper down as he sat, flipping through the pages for the classifieds. Content with skimming through the ads as he waited for his drink, Akira found the list of people looking for a roommate and pulled out his cellphone, preparing his heart to be turned away several times before finally finding that one place that would take him. "Here goes nothing..." He whispered to himself as his fingers ran over the buttons of the phone, dialing the first number on the list.

Post by JULIAN DARREN WELLING on Dec 13, 2010 21:18:36 GMT -5
Julian was behind the counter making coffee for the few customers they had in the shop when his cell phone went off. He frowned, he couldn't get to it in time to answer it, and if he tried his boss would skin him alive. So he sadly listened to it call out and hoped the person calling would leave a message. He also hoped it was someone calling about the room he'd been advertising for the last two weeks. Someone who he could actually see himself living with at any rate. He'd done five interviews so far, and each and every one of them had been truly terrifying. There had been the old guy who had talked far to much about the neighborhood school down the road, Julian had passed his number onto the police after he'd politely asked him to leave. He knew it wouldn't do any good, just talking that way wasn't a crime... he thought it should have been though.
Then there was the girl who had literally looked like Barbie... and she'd talked like her too. That wasn't he issue though, oh no, Julian wasn't that shallow. No it had been after she'd tried flirting with him for the hundredth time in the five minutes that they'd been involved in the interview, he'd quietly informed her that he was gay. She had just laughed and told him not to be silly, that there was no such thing as gay, that he just hadn't met the right girl yet. After which, while he had sat and blinked at her in disbelief, she strongly implied that she was the very girl for him. He had also kindly asked her to leave, and also called his cell provider to request that they block her number after the tenth anti-gay, I can heal you message from her. He really really didn't need that in her life.
There was the homeless man who had asked if he could use Julian's bed and if he could pay rent using a barter system instead of cash. Julian's patience at this point had been running very thin and he'd snapped at him to leave. After that he'd waited a few days before trying again. And then he wished he hadn't. It's not that he was judgmental, but when a room for one advert is answered by someone, he honestly believed that one person would turn up and plan to live in it. Not a family of eight who he was fairly sure weren't even in the country legally. And while he felt for them and wished he could help, he honestly couldn't share his already tiny space with eight other people, five of which were under the age of three.
The point was, he was not having a very good time of it finding a flat mate, he just hoped the next lot of callers worked out better.
He smiled to himself and putting a cup of coffee on a small tray he rounded the counter and headed over to the table of the guy who'd just ordered.
"Hi, your coffee" he said with a smile as he put the mug down in front of him. After that he nodded and turned away, telling his boss he was taking five, he sat at an empty table and pulled his phone out. He hit the button to call back the last number who'd called him and waited for the owner of the phone to pick up. All the while praying that this one would be somewhat normal!.
