Thomas was driving home from work. He stopped at a local Starbucks that wasn't too far from the airport. He parked his silver Toyota Camry in the parking lot and entered the building. He stood online and waited patiently for the girl behind the counter to take his order. He was dressed in his pilots uniform still.
The place was fairly quiet for this time of day so that was a good thing. He couldnt stand being around crowds much. The rush hour didn't start for another hour and half so that was a good thing in itself.
Thomas ordered a cup of coffee and a croissant and found a booth near the back. He slid into it and got comfortable before digging into his croissant. He chewed thoughtfully as he watched the faint trickle of people come in. His dark eyes roamed over an elderly couple. A faint smile formed on his face.
He already had the faint shadows of a beard but he kept it close cut. He kept his cell phone in his pocket incase the airport needed to call him for any kind of emergency flight. He was secretly hoping they didn't call him. He wanted a break but that was the life of a airline pilot for you. He sighed.
He was a bit lonely considering. He wasn't married or anything yet. He had no intentions of cheating if he DID get married for that matter. Most pilots did, being they were alone for long period of time and flying to all kinds of destinations...but that was no excuse in Thomas' opinion. If you were happily married, that would be the last thing on your mind to cheat.
He took a sip of his hot coffee, and wondered if anyone else would come in.

the blonde woman flipped her hair back behind her shoulder, the curls curling more tight today for some reason. maybe it was the weather, she sighed, hoping that she didn’t look too disastrous. she kept her arm wrapped tight around her bag since she didn’t trust busy places, a lot of prowlers liked to occupy spaces such as these and roselyn tended to be slightly cautious. it’s not that she thought that everyone was a bad person, she just knew that one out of five people were, especially in new york. her ratio was probably totally wrong but she liked to exaggerate on some matters. her bright blue eyes scanned the stores ahead of her, making sure not to walk into anyone and located a Starbucks. she could definitely use a coffee before her flight.
shouldering her way through the crowds she kept a pleasant smile on her face and apologized every time she bumped into a shoulder or stepped on a toe. it was seriously hard to maintain personal space in such a crowded area. running her hair through her hair she ducked her head down as she sped through the streets, keeping her stunning eyes glued to her destination. being a little bit more rough than she meant to be she stumbled through two people and opened the door to the Starbucks, making her way over to the counter breathlessly, the small smile still on her face. taking her purse off her arm and placing it on the counter under her hands she looked up at the boards that had the types of coffee listed on them. ordering a medium cappuccino she turned around, wondering where she should sit.
of course all the areas were taken so she looked for someone that looked like they weren’t going to try to rape her or steal her purse and approached a nice looking man, flashing him a grin before speaking, “hello. i’m roselyn. i’m wondering if i could be able to sit with you? all the other tables are full, you know how new york gets.” she clutched her coffee in one hand and her black purse in the other as she grinned at the man, hoping that he would allow her to sit with him. after walking all that way she really needed a rest and all the other people either had company or didn’t look nice enough for roselyn to approach them.

Thomas looked up at a pretty blond haired woman that had approached him. He smiled and gestured t othe empty spot across from him.
"Sure by all means" he said to her softly.
The place had been picking up now and was getting crowded. All the seats had been taken now. Thomas' booth was the only spot that was free for a seat.
"This place is sure hopping now huh?" Thomas asked the woman softly taking a sip of his coffee. "You should be in here during rush hour. It's like a cattle stampeded"
He joked to her lightly. He beamed at her.
"Do you generally come here alot?" he implied of her tilting his head to the side. Thomas usually invaded his place every day after and before work. The coffee was strong and it kept him awake during those early morning flights that had him waking up at three AM. Those were one thing he would never do again as long as he lived, but he was on call so you never know. Thankfully tomorrow was his day off. He couldn't wait. He could have a day off by himself and just relax and sleep late till like 2 PM.
A faint grin formed on his face.
"I'm Thomas Burke" he introduced himself extending his hand out to her to shake.
She seemed nice and was pretty. Thomas hadn't met many women that took an interest in him so this was a refreshing change and pace for him. He'd forgotten what it was like. His wife had died a long time ago just before they were going to have a family. So his heart had finally mended after all this time. He just hadn't had a date in a while

roselyn gave an appreciative smile as she plopped herself down on the other side of the man. “thank you ever so much. i really do appreciate it. walking a long distance really does take a toll on one’s legs.” she chuckled, knowing that she was out of shape and should probably start going on daily jogs again. though everything in her life was just so busy, she always had trouble finding time for anything that she wanted to do that wasn’t work related. her blue eyes darted around as she realized the place was getting even more crowded, if that was even possible. more people were squeezing into the small store, the line to get refreshments getting longer, almost out the door now. she glanced at her watch, wondering what time people all decided to come get refreshments at the same time, it must be a worldwide break for works in the area.
“oh definitely! i’m surprised it can fit more people, it already looked like it was going to explode when i came in, now look at it!” she waved her hand around to gesture at the amount of people that were shoving their way into the small coffee store. she blinked as he mentioned that she should see it during rush hour, “you mean it can get busier than this?” rose wasn’t really a big person to go into the city, always liking the rural areas where there was absolutely nothing. she was a person that liked solidarity, not big crowds since she got claustrophobic very easily. plus she was one of those people that was obsessed with personal space, she wouldn’t go absolutely nuts if people were in her personal bubble but it sure did annoy her.
she gave a small frown and a little shrug in response to his question, “no not really. i tend to stick to more non-populated areas. i get slightly jumpy when around tons of people.” she laughed, making sure to keep a good hold on her purse, oh yes she was very jumpy when it came to large crowds. maybe it was the trust issues that came with her father trying to drown her, always being over-cautious about places like new york. “well it’s certainly a pleasure to meet you thomas.” she gave a good-natured smile as she shook his hand firmly before placing it back in her lap. she did have to admit he had that vibe about him that made him seem less dangerous than everyone around them, even though he looked strong enough to take her down.

Thomas grinned at Roselyn.
"Pleasure's all mine," Thomas said kindly. He nodded to her when she asked if the place was even more crowded than this during rush hour.
"Oh yeah you should see this place. It's like a mating frenzy with Monkeys here" he winked at her grinning broadly.
Roselyn seemed nice. She still seemed a bit unsure around him but was a little more comfortable.
"I don't bite trust me" Thomas said lightly to her. "I'm a big marshmellow"
He finished his croissant and took a sip of his coffee now. It was still hot thank God. He looked at her.
"So tell me Roselyn...are you from the city? or the Boroughs?" he implied of her curiously cocking his head to one side. Some people didn't like entering the city being it was so busy at mostly all times of the day. Still, he loved the city and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Staten Island was alright. It was where he lived. The commute to Queen though killed him nearly each morning, but Staten Island was more of a rural area so it felt like country to him.
He loved it dearly.
"I live in Staten Island myself. The commute to work kills me from there to Queens. I'm a pilot for Delta Airlines" Thomas explained to Roselyn softly. He took another sip of his coffee and watched Rose. She was attractive, he couldn't deny that. His mind flashed him bits of memory from his wife, but he forced them to subside and focused his attention on Rose. He blushed.
"Sorry you remind me of my wife. She passed away 3 years ago" he said quietly as he waited for Roselyn to respond.

a small blush crawled across roselyn’s cheeks as she smiled to herself shyly. the man was very kind and she found herself liking him more and more as the seconds ticked by. she laughed as he referred to the coffee shop being like the mating season for monkeys, “that can get pretty hectic, i agree.” she giggled, raising her hand to cover her mouth, her eyes bright with humor. lowering her hand she bit her bottom lip as he mentioned she shouldn’t be scared of him. so she had seen right through her, “i do apologize,” she gave a small smile, “well marshmallows are always nice, so i’m not afraid anymore.” she ran her hand through her hair, tilting her head slightly so her bangs would say out of her eyes.
her eyes watched thomas’ movement as he finished his croissant and took a sip of his drink, finding his motions very soft and fluid. another blush crossed her cheeks as she looked back down at the table, tucking her hair behind her ear, wanting something to do with her hands other than touch her hair. she snapped to attention at thomas’ question and smiled, “no i don’t live around here, i’m catching a flight in about two hours. i guess i’m a little early.” she chuckled, she was always being paranoid that she was going to be late and left way too early. clasping her hands together on her lap she leaned forward a bit to make sure that she could hear thomas over the rabble of people.
the blonde woman's unspoken question was answered before her brain could figure out what question she wanted answered. “really? i wouldn’t be able to commute anywhere. my body tends to shut down if i don’t get enough sleep.” her eyebrows raised in interest as he revealed that he was a pilot. “whoa! that’s so cool! i’ve never been in the cockpit of a plane. though i’ve heard there’s millions of buttons.” she grinned, placing her chin in her hand, her hair cascading over her shoulder. the smile lessened, saddened by the news of his wife dying, “oh i’m so sorry!” she frowned, offering her condolences quickly. she had never been in love and no one important in her life had passed away yet so she didn’t know what loss that he felt. though she could imagine, of course she didn’t want to but she could do it if she tried.

Thomas smiled at her.
"Mashmellow's aren't scary, unless they try to attack you in your sleep" he joked with her.
"Thanks." he inhaled deeply and checked his watch. "Oop I need to get going. I got a flight in a bit. It was nice meeting you, Roselyn"
He said warmly and extended his hand out to her to shake it good-bye. He beamed at her broadly.
He tossed his stuff out and smiled and waved at her again before leaving the place.
TWO HOURS LATER: Thomas was dressed in his navy slacks and white pilots shirt. His yellow stripes were on the epilat of his shirt. He remained standing by the cockpit, greeting passengers as they entered the plane. He was flying a MD88 today. He liked those planes. They handled nicely and it was much easier to control. The larger the plane, the harder it was. Several people passed him and waved. He returned the wave.
A few kids passed and immediately gushed as they pointed to the cockpit, one little girl in particular. He bent down.
"Maybe later you can come up and see it close up. Deal?" he said winking at the little girl. The mother beamed at him and ushered the little girl into the first class section. Thomas would never actually fly in first class. If God forbid there was an accident, they were the first to go, besides the pilo and co pilot. He shook his head, trying not to think of that.
Great you're psyching yourself out and you're gonna get yourself into a panic attack before you take off he thought to himself.
They were flying to San Francisco, California today. It was a round trip. He loved the state and wanted to visit there someday when he didn't have a flight

her slender fingers tucked her hair behind her eat once again, cursing herself mentally afterwards. she really needed to find something to do with her hands rather than running them through her hair. then again she only did that when she was nervous. but why was she nervous around Thomas? it wasn’t like he was going to hurt her, he seemed like one of the nicest guys around. her eyes snapped back to his face, appreciating his eyes and the shape of his face as he spoke. “ooo that is so true. remind me to lock my bedroom door when marshmallows are in the house.” she chuckled and bit her lip as he stood up. “it was wonderful meeting you too thomas!” she stood up, extending her hand in a farewell gesture.
TWO HOURS LATER: pulling her sweater around her form, she flashed her boarding pass as she smiled shyly at the attendant at the gate. rose always hated this part of the flight, always being paranoid that her boarding pass wouldn’t work. she gave a bright smile as it went through, feeling the relief flood her body as she continued onwards with her carry on bag. she pulled the bag to her shoulder, hugging it to her chest as she weaved her way through a couple of people, the boarding pass clutched in her opposite hand so she wouldn’t forget what seat she was sitting in.
rose heard the small voice over the rubble of people talking and she smiled, rose absolutely loved kids. she had always wanted to settle down, get married and have at least two children. of course no one had really taken an interest to her so she decided to get on with her life, giving up the search for ‘the one.’ it had all been just a lie, there was not one perfect man out there that was searching for you. sure there were a few nice ones but there were none that fit perfectly with another person.
the blonde was on her way to california to go on a vacation, her work taking a lot out of her. the stress had become like a cloud always overhanging her head and she decided that she needed to take a few weeks off. she was good at what she did so when she had asked for the break they had willingly let her go without too much trouble. rose was definitely looking forward to the beaches and the sun and the space. finding her seat she plopped herself down with a small sigh, keeping her bag safe on her lap and keeping a small smile on her face so she wouldn’t look as scared as she actually was.

Thomas recognized a familiar blond haired woman pass by him. Roselyn! he thought feeling a smile form on his face. He told the stewardess that he'd be right back. He headed down the aisle and past first class and into coach.
His eyes skimmed over the seats until he found her. He broke into a huge grin and stopped by her seat.
" Are you stalking me?" He joked to her lightly, resting his hand on the headrest of the seat in front of her.
"On your way to San Francisco huh?" he beamed at her.
That was totally creepy how they ended up on the same flight. Fate? Possibly yeah. He never believed in coincidences so it was more than that.
"If you need anything let me know ok?" he said to her softly. "Are you visiting someone in San Fran?"
Perhaps she had family there and that's why she was heading there. The flight would be little over 6 hours and 20 minutes. It was a long flight but not that bad really. Thomas had done a lot longer flights like from New York to Hawaii. Now THAT was one flight he never wanted to repeat for a while. He was completely exhausted by the time he landed. He almost didn't get up the next morning for the flight back to New York.
Granted Hawaii was gorgeous but not gorgeous enough to warrant him making that same trip again. California wasn't a bad stretch so he didn't mind those runs. Anywhere within the fifty states were fine with him. Over seas was another issue in itself. He hated it.
"I hope you enjoy your flight, Rose. Again, if you need anything dont hesitate to ask" he said smiling at her as he placed a hand on her shoulder

the blonde woman kept a pleasant smile on her face as she put her rucksack under the chair in front of her. she kept one of the straps wrapped around her foot so that no one would be able to take it, always being cautious. her blue eyes widened as one of the flight attendants plopped himself down next to her, wondering if she had been caught doing something wrong. she turned, prepared to defend herself when she realized that it was thomas. “oh my goodness! thomas! of course not, what a coincidence!” she grinned in relief, secretly happy that the two had run into each other again.
she nodded in response to his question, thinking the same thoughts about how it was slightly creepy they had ended up on the same flight to the same place, fate was telling them something. “i’m taking a break from work, i’ve been needing a vacation for the longest time now and this week was the perfect time.” she smiled, though not really looking forward to the long flight. the feeling of the pressure made her always get sick when she got off of them. hopefully this time would be different. the flight was really long, but she could handle it. rose had her book and her computer and her music, the time would go by quickly as long as she didn’t think about it and maybe thomas would keep her company if the person that had the ticket next to rose’s didn’t show up.
roselyn had been to san francisco a couple of times now but she never got over the heat and beauty. she had always wanted to go somewhere in asia, somewhere where they spoke french. she thought that the language was so beautiful even though she couldn’t speak anything but english. she grinned at thomas as he told her that if she needed anything he would be happy to help. “thank you thomas that’s very sweet of you. are the doors going to close soon? the person that’s sitting next to me should be here by now.” she smiled hopefully, maybe thomas would be able to sit with her and distract her so that the time would pass faster.
